Grassroots Activism in Action: Fighting to Stop a Coal Mine King County

June 5, 2014

Organizers at Fuse broke the news in April that the Pacific Coast Coal Company was trying to restart coal blasting at the John Henry mine in Black Diamond, Washington. Fuse members across King County responded with an outpouring of grassroots opposition. In less than 2 weeks, more than 1,400 Fuse members submitted comments to federal regulators opposing restarting coal mining and demanding a public hearing before any action is taken.

We also worked to bring public attention to this dirty and dangerous proposal through the media. We generated 22 television stories, 3 radio stories, and 7 online news stories in the final week before comments were due.
