Communications Associate, Children’s Alliance

The Communications Associate at the Children’s Alliance is a full-time position based in the Children’s Alliance Seattle office. The Communications Associate works with the Communications Manager and policy staff to plan and execute media campaigns in support of our policy priorities. The Communications Associate supports the organization’s communications efforts by research, writing and editing advocacy materials, tracking media coverage in our policy issue areas and otherwise supporting the Children’s Alliance’s advocacy efforts. This position is part of the organization’s policy staff and reports to the Communications Manager. Salary $38,000/year. Health, dental and retirement benefits included. Major responsibilities:

Secure broad multi-media coverage on children’s issues to advance public policies that benefit Washington’s children and families.

Write and execute media and communications plans to support Children’s Alliance policy campaigns.

Assist in developing messaging for policy campaigns.

Research, write and edit organizational communications such as electronic alerts, fact sheets, press releases, and policy briefs.

Manage story gathering, report production and other communications projects which require the ability to work with partners around the state, track progress and coordinate work with contractors as well as Children’s Alliance staff.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • At least three years of media and/or communications experience
  • Comfort with pitching stories to reporters and producers
  • Experience with public policy advocacy, preferable at state legislative level
  • Ability to translate complex policy issues into easily understood language
  • Experience working with diverse populations and valuing diversity
  • Commitment to advocating for children, families and social justice
