Development Associate, Sierra Club Cascade ChapterContext: The Development Associate develops, recommends, and implements the Chapter’s fundraising programs and activities in order to achieve the Chapter’s fundraising goals. Scope: The Cascade Chapter of the Sierra Club is looking for a creative, motivated, and well-organized individual with an orientation toward fundraising and marketing to join our staff! The Cascade Chapter is a team of staff and volunteers working to empower citizens to tackle challenges from protecting wilderness to fighting climate change and organizing everything from hikes to community rallies to do so. Our diverse range of issues and activities make sharing our story with the donor community a unique challenge and we are seeking someone to coordinate our fundraising efforts into a more focused voice. The Development Associate will work closely with the Chapter Director and our Executive Committee to design and manage the Chapter’s fundraising program. This position will assist the Director and volunteer leaders with major donor cultivation by creating marketing materials for our major campaigns, managing our mail program, engaging individual donors, assisting with events, and coordinating the messages of various fundraising efforts though our communication tools. Strong writing skills, fundraising experience, and the ability to multi-task is a must. Website and/or grantwriting skills or experience is a plus. Job Activities: 1. Plans, organizes and oversees all fundraising events and activities; including appeals, events, grant proposals, donor identification and solicitation, and donor relations. 2. Assists in the development and preparation of chapter publications, fact sheets and other communication materials for conservation action campaigns and public education projects. 3. Assists the Chapter in the development of the annual fundraising goals and objectives. 4. Develops and carries out solicitation plans. Identifies funding trends; develops and cultivates new funding sources. 5. Ensures that the chapter operates in compliance with all national, foundation and government and grant requirements. 6. Works closely with national staff to coordinate fundraising efforts when appropriate. 7. Recruits and trains volunteers to participate in the Chapters fundraising programs and activities. 8. Maintains the fundraising database and monitors the flow of funds, including the acknowledgment and receipt of gifts 9. Monitors and prepares reports of fundraising progress. Provides financial progress reports to the Club, Chapter, executive committees, etc. Performs income forecasting. 10. Writes grant proposals to solicit funding from private, government, and public foundations. 11. Develops and maintains expertise in professional field by reading current literature, and attending seminars, conferences, and meetings when possible. 12. Performs miscellaneous duties as required.
