Are you a driven organizer with a passion for youth engagement? Do you want to organize for progress in the Puget Sound region? Do you think Washington should lead the nation with progressive policies to fight climate change, expand affordable housing, and achieve racial justice? Are you excited about taking action in electoral education and politics? If so, this job may be for you! Come work with us at Fuse, the largest progressive organization in Washington state.
Overview
Young voters are a determining factor in our elections; they have the numbers and the power to shape the future of our state through leadership in the electoral process. In Washington State, even a small increase in student voter turnout could shape our state for years to come. That’s where our Civic Voices Fellowship comes into play - an ambitious organizing project to protect and expand democracy by elevating youth leadership across the state in order to empower thousands of college students to take control of their futures, get organized, and vote in the 2024 elections. We're done waiting for change. We're ready to make it happen.
Our Civic Voices Fellowship is part of a larger state-wide campus voter project in collaboration with other organizations working to mobilize student voters through creative, engaging, and student-driven tactics.
What Will You Do
Regional Campus Organizers will be based in key regions across Washington to lead student fellows on chosen campuses to build a massive operation to register and turn out tens of thousands of students in Fall 2024.
Campus Organizers will be responsible for training and supervising a team of student fellows and volunteers to run campaigns on campus, both around issues, but critically later this year to register and turn students out to vote early and on Election Day. You will work to build a diverse coalition of students on campus from Student Government to Sororities & Fraternities to the Political Science Department and everyone in between to create the largest student turnout effort each campus has ever seen.
You will be asked to get creative, drive important decisions, and build a huge team on campus and across the state that empowers young people for many elections to come. Once your team is built you’ll work to reach every student on campus, making announcements in their classrooms, tabling in the student center, and knocking on their dorms, etc.
Responsibilities
- Draft plans for your campus program in the upcoming 2024 general election and assist in shaping the overall vision for the organization.
- Train and manage a team of paid fellows and volunteers who will mobilize their peers and create a movement on campus.
- Conduct direct voter contact and list-building through dorm-storming, high traffic canvassing, relational organizing, and more.
- Build relationships as necessary with a coalition of administrators, student leaders, and student organizations on a campus.
- Create and implement fun and engaging events to educate students about the upcoming elections and empower them to organize their peers.
- Support the Fuse Defend Washington campaign by promoting messaging on the ground and attending local events as needed
- All other duties as assigned.
Who Are You?
As a successful candidate for this job, you will:
- Have a passion for inspiring and empowering young people to get involved in the political process.
- Be excited to think outside the box and to ideate and innovate to find the most exciting and effective get out the vote tactics.
- Be eager to talk to as many students as possible (and be comfortable talking to a lot of strangers/potential volunteers).
- Be scrappy and flexible; able to manage several tasks simultaneously.
- Be a self-starter, exceptionally well-organized, and have strong time management skills.
- Have a driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Be able to work weekends and irregular hours as required.
- Previous experience organizing for an electoral campaign is a plus; previous experience with campus organizing is a bigger plus. Neither are required.
