Job Description

The Eastern WA Director will be responsible for leading our electoral, issue, and coalition campaigns in Spokane County. They will organize our local council of community leaders, expand our network of political donors, and run campaigns and coalitions to win on the most important local elections and issues in the region. This is a full-time, salaried position based in Spokane County, doing work in other parts of Eastern WA as opportunities arise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage our local Council of Community Leaders and support them to:
    • Run our local endorsement process for City, County, and State elections
    • Decide our local policy priorities
    • Organizing to win these campaigns.
  • Support campaigns and capacity building efforts of local BIPOC led organizations and coalitions.
  • Organize our local coalition campaigns targeting top priority races – working with progressive partners to develop a plan, raise the money, and implement large persuasion and Get Out The Vote campaigns.
  • Participate in and when needed lead local coalitions advancing policy for housing, criminal justice reform, and other critical issues.
  • Organize our local political donors to build a powerful progressive voice in local politics.
  • Support statewide campaigns with advocacy targeting local legislators at key times on issues like immigrant rights, climate, or criminal justice reform.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key organizations and leaders at the local and state level and act as a bridge to statewide groups on the west side of the state.

Required Qualifications: Work, volunteer, academic, and life experience are all acceptable

  • At least 5 years experience and preferably more in community or union organizing, election campaigns, non-profits, and/or advocacy
  • A demonstrated commitment to racial and economic justice
  • Experience working in coalitions
  • Strong relationship-building skills and comfortable with public speaking
  • A commitment to community organizing as a means of social change
  • Comfortable navigating technology including Google Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, and Slack
  • A valid driver's license and regular access to a vehicle
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a good sense of humor
  • Self motivated and able to work independently in a remote office environment.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced, campaign-style work environment

Ideal Qualifications:

  • Experience managing independent expenditure campaigns or larger Get Out the Vote efforts
  • Experience working with immigrant led organizations
  • Experience with major donor fundraising and or foundation grants.
  • Familiarity with Eastern Washington politics and communities
  • Existing relationships with elected leaders or organizations in Spokane County
  • Experience with Every Action, VAN, peer-to-peer texting tools like ThruText (previously Relay) or Hustle, and auto-dial software like Callfire

Salary and Benefits

Salary $80,000-$95,000 depending on experience.
